STEEL MAGNOLIAS by Robert Harling

The fictional northwestern Louisiana parish of Chinquapin is the home of Truvy’s Beauty Salon where six good friends have standing appointments every Saturday morning. The announcement by Shelby that she is getting married throws the ladies into a tizzy. M’Lynn, the mother of Shelby, is happy and yet concerned because of her daughter’s severe diabetes. Three years later, in spite of her mother’s and her doctor’s warnings Shelby gets pregnant. The pregnancy and birth are too much and as Shelby’s body gives out, the ladies, Truvy, Annelle, Truvy’s assistant, Clairee, the richest woman in town, Ouiser, the curmudgeon and M’Lynn, the grieving mother, are drawn together as only the closest of friends can be. The underlying friendship and friendly banter are the prominent themes throughout the drama.
